WELCOME TO HERD HOUSE RIDING SCHOOL
Lessons
All new riders are assessed before joining a group. Lessons are either in a group, private or semi-private. Beginner lessons are always in the indoor arena.
All beginners spend time on lead rein, especially young children. If you are considering lessons for a child who is a beginner, it is essential that the child is on a lead rein at first, to allow them to gain correct position and balance, and to learn the ‘aids’ to control the horse.
Our beginners spend time on the lunge. This is where the instructor stands in the middle of the arena holding a long lunge line, which is attached to the horse on a lugging line. The horse walks or trots in a circle, with the instructor taking control of the animal, enabling the rider to develop the correct position and balance in the different places without having to worry about the horse as the instructor has control.
All new riders must fill in a registration form before your first ride this is for our records and is strictly confidential. Please read our Herd House Safety rules notice. Finally we try to ensure that the clients of the same ability are in the same classes.

Lessons are for 1 hour both group and private. We have a selection of hats all to the current safety standard, there are also boots that clients can borrow. Safety is priority and all saddles are fitted with some type of safety stirrup iron.
